Born: Ann Cole on December 14th, 1898 in Clayton Alabama

Fashion House: The House of Lowe

Known For: As an African American women trying to make her way through racial divides, she pioneered proving talent (to a point) surpassed racial lines. She was well known in the inner circles of wealthy, high society elite women, for her beautifully made creations. So much so she design the wedding dress of Jacquline Bouvier who was to marry John F. Kennedy. As well as many Hollywood actresses.

Death

After closing up her shop due to unpaid taxes and health issues, Ann spent the last years of her life living with her daughter Ruth in Queens. She died penniless in 1981. A collection of her designs are held at the Costume Institute at the MET, three at the Smithsonian's Natural Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington D.C. There was also an exhibit at FIT in December 2016.
