Marking Main Fabric

Marking Main Fabric

This process pretty much follows in the same steps as the process used for marking the muslin toile. However, because we are using our main fabric the key is to have as little tailoring marks as possible. So we must rely more on methods that reduce or hide those marks.

  • You can either use the original paper pattern, if no additional adjustments need to be made.
  • If you made adjustments on the muslin you'll need to take the muslin apart completely, press it out flat and use that to create your final dress.
  • Use tailors tacks to mark darts and matching points
  • You only need match points and dart markings for your final dress, not those other indication markings
  • Disappearing chalk is the most effective in creating dart legs and other markings that will dissolve in heat
  • All markings should be on the wrong side, of the fabric
